Digital Revolution: New Website, App, and AI Integration
A major component of the £7 billion investment is a complete overhaul of British Airways’ IT infrastructure. The airline is shifting from legacy data centers to cloud-based solutions while developing a modern website and mobile app to enhance digital retailing.
Lacy acknowledged the shift in customer behavior since COVID-19, noting the increased demand for seamless digital experiences.
"Even the least tech-savvy customers have embraced digital tools. Our goal is to provide an intuitive and fully self-service experience for those who prefer it."
Artificial Intelligence and data analytics will play a crucial role in optimizing revenue management and personalizing the customer experience. The airline is also integrating Amadeus' Nevio modern retailing platform and a new payments orchestration layer.
Future-Proofing British Airways
By modernizing its technological infrastructure, British Airways expects to reduce costs, boost profitability, and improve operational efficiency. The airline is targeting an increase in EBIT margin from 10% to 15% through these strategic initiatives.
"We recognize that the airline industry's current ecosystem is outdated. Our goal is to build a modern, customer-centric infrastructure that drives both efficiency and profitability," Lacy concluded.
This ambitious transformation underscores British Airways’ commitment to redefining air travel, ensuring a seamless and premium experience for its customers worldwide.
